I can’t believe it. I have the honour of being on Team Myles for a THIRD time. I was an Ambassador in 2016 where I learned to run and did 10K and a Mentor in 2017 for the 10K Team. Now I’m back as an Ambassador in 2019 where I’ll be training to run my very first Half Marathon. I am beyond thrilled to be doing this!!
In all honesty, I never believed I could do a half marathon and hadn’t set that out as a goal for myself. I’ve been running on and off since 2016. My off times were mostly due to injury. Since last April, I’ve been running at least once a week and walking almost every day. I’ve been happy to do 3 to 5K on each outing. I have been challenging myself to work on my endurance and have seen my running pace improve by about 3 minutes per kilometer. To me, that’s an awesome accomplishment and I’m super proud of that.
When the Blue Nose Marathon announced they were adding a half marathon option for Team Myles and that past members could apply, it set my wheels turning. Could I do this? Should I apply? Am I crazy? The answer to all those questions was YES. Yes, I could do this. Yes, I should apply. Yes, I am crazy. The one thing I did know is that Team Myles works. I’ve been in the program before and accomplished what I thought was impossible and I’ve seen people accomplish their goals that they thought were impossible. If there was a group to train for a half marathon with, it’s Team Myles.
When I got the email saying I was accepted, I had tears in my eyes. It was then that the reality hit me. It’s time to go out of my comfort zone and do something big. I know this journey is not going to be easy, but the training plan that coach Victoria Horne from Lifemark has done up is very reasonable and builds gradually. She seems awesome and can’t wait to learn from her. We have incredible mentors that are so eager to help us along the way and share their experience with us. We also have some amazing sponsors in Lifemark Physiotherapy, GoodLife Fitness, Aerobics First, The Barrington Hotel, and Hotel Halifax. Of course, the biggest reward is getting to be an Ambassador for the Blue Nose Marathon which is my favourite race weekend!!
I cannot wait to share my Team Myles adventures on here…. The good, the bad, and the ugly!!
