Let me first start off by saying how excited I am to be back again this year with Team Myles. Not only am I back for my 3rd year but I get to come back as Mentor for the new Half Marathon Training Program.
For those who already know me you know how much I love this program. So I thought my first Blog should be a recap of my past two years with Team Myles and to let all you new ambassadors know what this program as done for me and what I hope it does for you.
So here goes, I apologize in advance this is probably going to be quite long and my grammar isn’t the best. (lol)
Here is the true me and why I applied to be an ambassador with Team Myles back in 2017.
I was probably at one of the lowest points in my life. I had already suffered two of the biggest losses of my life at this point, my only sibling my older brother and my Dad. I had started to dabble in running a bit back in 2011-2012 with a few co-workers. I then had a medical emergency of my own that left me in and out of hospital a few times over the next 6-9 months. After many specialist appointments, two wrong diagnosis, at the age of 40 I had to have an emergency hysterectomy. This left me severely depressed and suffering from anxiety.
I finally opened up to one of my peers at work and she was the one who suggested that I should apply for Team Myles, as she was a past graduate of the Program. She spoke so highly of the program and how it had helped her. So I did apply, I did get accepted and like many of you on launch night, it was one of the most terrifying nights of my life. I knew two other people at the launch and all three of us stuck with each other in the far back corner of Tempo. Then we had our first Sunday run, then our first hills night. Then the weeks just continued to fly by and before I knew it I had gained so many new friends. So with all that being said, 2017 turned out to be one of the best years of my life in such a long time. Team Myles not only gave me back my physical health but also my mental health. The guidance, support, friendships and most of all Family. Because at the end that is what I gained an extended family.
This is why I wanted to come back and do it all over again with the 2018 Ambassadors as a Mentor for them. I wanted to give back to the program, I wanted to help people who may have some of the same struggles that I had/have. I wanted them to have a new extended family.
And that is why I wanted back again this year, I want to be there for all of YOU, new AMBASSADOR and new MENTORS.
This program as given me my life back. I now have a better work life balance because of this program. I now talk to people and let theM know how I am feeling and if I need support. I wouldn’t of done that two years ago. This program as helped me reach one of my biggest accomplishments in life, which was back in October of 2018 I became a member of the 1% club of the world. Which is someone who will complete a Full Marathon in their life time. Without being accepted to Team Myles 2017 none of this would of been possible. I would still be that person who got up came to work, worked my day went home and sat on the sofa for the rest of the evening snacking shutting the outside world off. I wouldn’t have this new extended family, my Team Myles Family, my Running Family.
I’m not going to lie and say this is going to be easy, going to be a walk in the park. It’s not, you will have some bad days, there will be days in which you feel like you want to throw in the towel and give up. But remember on those days you have a great coach and a great bunch of mentors who have done this and have been in your shoes. Use us, let us know your struggles so we can help you in any way we can. Because in the end we are here for you and want you to reach your goals.
anyway we can. I can’t wait to get the training started and to be out there with you all. You all Got This, so on Sunday, February 17th, the journey begins.
