Have you ever walked into a room and felt the energy from everyone in it bounce off the walls? I went to my first Zumba class in years today at the Joseph Howe Goodlife. The room was alive with amazing women who were some of the most welcoming, supportive and energetic people that I have ever met! It is common in classes for the instructor to ask if there is anyone new to their class. Three of us “Team Mylers” put up or hands and people clapped! They told us that we would love it, that we have so much fun and they were so glad that we were there. Amazing.
Half way through the class, a lady in pink came over to us and said that we were doing a great job and to keep it up. Amazing support and encouragement. Lady in Pink – you made my day today!
Then…it happened I found my motivation in two ways. A Tina Turner mix came on and we moved and we grooved. In that moment, I knew that Tina Turner was going to be my Bluenose 10K soundtrack. She is a strong, powerful woman and knows a thing or two about challenges. I saw her in concert when I was 11 – my aunts took me to see her at the Metro Centre . It was a life changing moment and Team Myles has also been life changing; it is only fitting that Tina Turner is going to be my race soundtrack.
The other motivation I found today was a woman in class – she is 84 and goes to Zumba whenever she can. She was moving and grooving like the rest of us. When I run my race in four weeks, I am going to think of her. She has a strong spirit and amazing energy. Just like Tina. Zumba today was more than a class…it was an experience full of support, encouragement, joy, energy, and laughter.
In an interview Tina Turner said, “you must love and care for yourself, because that’s when the best comes out.” Thank you Team Myles for the support and encouragement you give, so my best can come out.
