22.5

My title for this week’s entry is the distance in kilometers we ran this past Saturday (Twenty-two point five kilometers). It looks a lot less intimidating to me when I write it out.

I guess the number 22.5 is significant for me because I can recall on many different occasions over the past two or three years watching my wife run in full and half marathons and saying to her and myself that I would never be able to run that amount of distance all in one shot. Not only did I think that I wouldn’t be able to run the distance, but more importantly I didn’t WANT to.

Well here we are on Monday morning, my legs are not sore and I’m ready for Monday’s run. We did it; our group of half Marathon runners ran more distance than we will have to run in the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon on Sunday May 23rd. What was different about our long run this week was the fact that our group stayed together and helped motivate one another to push through it. On Saturday a group of five or six stayed together for almost the entire distance. We made sure to keep a manageable  pace where in past weeks a couple of us might have gotten excited and tried to run faster, which in some cases might be counterproductive.

So to end this week’s entry, thank you Team Myles for helping me reach a milestone that I once thought I didn’t want to reach and I look forward to many more along the way!

25 is the number next week… Twenty-Five.
