Hello world!

“Hello world” was the title given to this first blog post, and it seems like a good one! I am a 35 year old mother of two (ages 2 and 5) and a half (the half represents my step-son – 17) who works full time and would love to be “a runner”. However, at best I am “a jogger”. I am running the 10k for this year’s Bluenose, and the one and only time I have run 10k before was last year’s Bluenose. I ran that one, and run this one again, in honour of my godfather, Ian, who is waging his own private war against ALS. The least I can do is try to run through the discomfort that will come to an end when the run ends, while his never does. And there is discomfort. I ran all of 5k yesterday morning and felt horrible, but by mid-afternoon was suffering a hard-hitting cold, so I am hoping that was the reason the run was so tortuous! I also seem to have a problem with my right hip – no idea what it is. Up until last weekend, it was not troubling me while running, but the runs I did last weekend (6.5k) and this weekend found my hip bugging me during the run.
Last year I ran the 10k in 1 hour 9 minutes, and I had hoped to run this year in one hour. I’m not sure that will be the case, however. January and February found me on the road and away from consistent training for 3 weeks, and with the hip now, I have not yet run over 10k. But I will! My other motivation is running with my dogs – it’s the only exercise they get, so that gets me out at least for short runs a couple of times a week with the goal being longer runs on the weekend.
The advice for us Team Myles folk was to keep these blogs short and from the heart. I think I’ve gone longer than I should, so I’ll sign off for now. Happy training, everyone!
