Hill Repeats

With Easter weekend, things have been crazy.  Decided to get my long run in early this past weekend, took advantage of the holiday Good Friday and got in a solid 25km.  My partners in crime, Neil and Donna, pushed me a tad harder than I was use too…but, I felt great.  We had mapped out a rather hilly route close to home which was a loop off the beaten path, slightly!   Was able to have  a productive day after my run and wasn’t confined to the comforts of the sofa.

I have been diligent in getting all of my required workouts in (this week) a necessity with the consumption of Easter dinner, wine and chocolate.  The fabulous weather has been a great incentive to lace up the sneakers and hit the road.

The hardest workout this week would have to be the hill repeats.  Forcing my body to repeatedly run up and down the same 300-400 meter incline is difficult and tends to be mentally exhausting.  Although this should have been the 2nd week running them, I missed out last week -proud to say that I mustered up the strength to run 9 hills, and a final hill on the cool down returning home.  I’m hoping to have company this week for 11-12 repeats…which should make things more tolerable!

Really felt it in my quads and glutes the following day, however, water running worked out any of the issues from the previous day!  I recommend anybody check it out.  I have been going regularly for the past few month at the Sackville Sports Stadium, Denise Camps Saulnier, a certified instructor, is WONDERFUL (sometimes she can be tough though).  Check it out!!

Looking forward to having company again this week for my 32km run!!  Will let you know how it goes.  Today I’m resting – much needed!
