After being with Team Myles for a month, a lot has changed..
Breathing till the End:
I used to get winded while running for 20 minutes. Mentors have taught me how to slow down, so I can go longer and not be gasping for air at the end.
Pushing the Limits:
Coach Leanne said something on night one of hills. She said, “You can do anything for 30 seconds. So I want you to give it everything.” I’ve since taken that advice and added it to my running. So when I’m on the treadmill at work or running past the Casino on Sunday and I want to give up, I tell myself: “Just 30 more seconds, you can do anything for 30 seconds.” Before I know it, 30 seconds has long past and I got father then I thought.
Give me some Sugar:
I’ve always had an issue with sugar. We have a love/hate relationship that I’m dying to get out of. Yesterday I went to visit Amanda, a Lifemark Dietitian. She gave me a handful of tricks to help with my sugar cravings and also my late night eating. I also didn’t realize there is a big window in my day where I don’t eat. So this weekend I’m going to make a snack box filled with things I can take with me to eat after/before the gym or a run.
Yoga stole my Heart:
A few nights ago we went to yoga. I went in thinking it was going to be ok. Nothing exciting and that I probably wouldn’t learn anything. Oh my god, was I wrong. That was one of the best experiences of my life. The class went from, sore stiff leg muscles being pulled and stretched to calm breathing and completely letting go of everything. Micheal was amazing, and I left stretched and relaxed. I look forward to doing this again.
Calendar of Runs:
Another thing I didn’t think would happen.. my calendar filling up with runs before I even run my first race. I’ve signed up for 3 more runs, on top of the Bluenose so far. I mean, I haven’t even run one yet but I’ve paid to run more?! The confidence I’ve gained this far has been amazing. It must be for me to do some crazy shit like that.
I look forward to my second month and the changes it’ll bring!
