Storms Shifts and SWAG!

Well, the storm certainly made for an interesting week! I didn’t get much running in, with the messy roads and our long run being cancelled on Saturday. I did manage to get lots of shovelling done. Cross training… I’ll take it however I can get it! The weather seems to be the second most frustrating thing about training so far. I have a wonderful career that really makes me feel like I’m helping people, and I would never change that, but I have to say that working shift work is making training and routines a bit difficult. I know there are lots of people in my position who find a way to work it out, so I will continue to pick their brains and get in the groove!

Now for the third “S” in this post… SWAG! We Team Myles folks have been most fortunate to be on the receiving end of some really awesome benefits. Not only do we get a membership to 360 fit, but we got the opportunity to have an assessment done at LifeMark Centric Health on our feet, and Paul Makinen gave us all recommendations for proper running shoes.. Which came in handy when we found out we were getting free Brooks running shoes at the Running Room on Spring Garden Rd! I went for my assessment this morning in Dartmouth and it was a great experience! Very thorough but also very efficient. I was in and out in about a half hour with some great information. Some of my team members went as a group on Saturday to get their shoes, but thanks to S number two (shift work) I had to wait until today. I braved 10 foot snow banks (hey another S..) in downtown Halifax and managed to find on street parking. I brought in my list of shoe recommendations from Paul, and with some input from the Running Rook staff I was able to get a great new pair of Brooks Ariel 14 running shoes. They are super comfy and I was really surprised that they are a size 10!! Ordinarily I am an 8.5 so I couldn’t help but think I was instantly a giant! I was very happy that The Running Room had them in stock and I was able to take them home right away! Score!

I’m back on night shifts tonight, and hoping to take my new shoes for a test run on the treadmill. Stay tuned for an update!
